The militarisation of the Arctic has no rational justification.

Russia has 8 nuclear icebreakers, mainly used to keep the Northern Sea Route open (North of Russia), also called the ‘North-east Passage’. The most powerful, “Arktika”, launched in 2020, can break through ice up to 3m thick. A new series of even more powerful icebreakers with capacity for 4m ice (‘Project Leader’) are under construction and the first is expected to be launched in 2030.

Israel launched on June 13, 2025, a lightening attack on Iran, carrying out 360 attacks in 27 Iranian provinces, a third of them targeting Teheran. The attack considerably weakened the Iranian Republic (and led to unprecedented destruction in Israel too).

Indonesia is trying to give a push to industrialisation by banning exports and requiring domestic processing of certain raw materials, starting with nickel. France, Germany, Italy, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the US complained to the World Trade Organisation, WTO, which ruled against Indonesia, but it has appealed the decision to the WTO Appellate Body. This body is presently non-functional as the election of judges has been blocked by the US (first Trump, then Biden).
